I can’t figure out
why This Is Just to Say
is a poem
or rather, why it’s a good poem

It’s about
eating his wife’s

They were in the icebox
and he ate them
and now he’s asking forgiveness
why is that a poem

It’s a note
he left on the kitchen table
it’s not a story, or a fable
sorry I just had to rhyme

Why is this a poem
oh, it’s by William Carlos Williams
whose name is like a palindrome

Should I keep it
I’d like to throw it out
but every time I go to do it
my mind is filled with doubt
